26mpg?!
I do miss the good old days of small, unsafe but efficient vehicles. My del Sol reliably got 30+. When it died I bought a Civic Si that was lucky to get 23. My Jeep gets 13.

Never. I have never seen a clean Ford Courier in person.

I swear, I was going to reply that it could be yours for $8,000. But as the other commenter said, oh for the days of unsafe but reliable and efficient vehicles.

My Mom had a Plymouth reliant k car with a 2.2 4-cylinder automatic transmission and it got about 35 mi to the gallon. With new struts, it drove pretty nicely.

I’ve seen one in person. It was rough.

I feel the same. My ‘89 pickup got 26(!) and my Civic got 38. I had no idea that it was all downhill for me from there.

Last clean Courier I saw was a service vehicle at SFO, 20 years ago.
In New England, they were virtually extinct by 1990.

My first truck was the Mazda version of that truck. A B2000 in white and blue.
This is the closest one I’ve seen to mine:
Swap the tan interior for blue and add a blue pinstripe.

When I was a little kid, my paternal grandparents had one of these, I think as a motorhome tow-behind (I call it a dinghy). My memory of it is going 45 in a 55 on a state highway, not a care in the world.

I routinely got that in my 2WD ‘09 Ranger with the 4-cylinder and manual. I got better than 30 a couple times too. But apparently I also have the only reliable ProMaster in existence, so maybe I just tend to get the good ones.

One of my life goals is to buy an old Courier and swap in a 2.3L Ecoboost from a Mustang. 310hp and 2,500 lbs, with almost none of it over the rear axle.
Yeah, that should be a good way to ruin a set of tires and put a big ol’ smile on my face...
